Become an NHS Volunteer Responder

NHS Volunteer Responders is an app-based volunteer programme first set up in 2020 to support people vulnerable to COVID-19, those shielding or isolating, and the NHS in England. The programme was a new innovation which brought together three new partners – NHS England, Royal Voluntary Service, and GoodSAM. The programme continues to evolve as the needs of patients and the NHS change.

Volunteer Responders are needed to support people in local communities with activities including friendly phone calls, shopping and prescription delivery.

Volunteer Responders can, via the app, turn themselves on and off duty depending on their availability which means that you can easily fit volunteering around your day.

After you’ve registered and checks are complete, you’ll be sent a log-in to the GoodSAM app.

To volunteer you’ll need:

  • To be over 18
  • Have a smartphone to take part as you will be unable to receive task requests without the app.

For further information and to register as a Volunteer Responder, please visit www.nhscarevolunteerresponders.org

If you, or someone you know, or someone you care for would like support or have any questions about the Volunteer Responder programme you can call 0808 196 3646 (8am to 8pm, 7 days a week).
